5 Morning Routine Habits of Successful People

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE—SNOOZE.

BEEP BE—SNOOZE.

Sound familiar? It's easy to get in the habit of continuously hitting the "snooze" button — who doesn’t want those extra 8 minutes snuggled in your warm bed? But, there’s good news. It’s easier than you think to get in the habit of waking up, getting up, and slaying the day with habits that will lead to not only a better day, but a more productive and positive year. Here are five morning habits guaranteed to help you be the best version of yourself!

1. Stop hitting the snooze button!

Those extra minutes, as delicious as they seem, aren’t worth it. According to research, snoozing your alarm can actually make you more tired. But how!? Snoozing is so hard NOT to do!! Well, let’s be honest: waking up to the annoying beep of an alarm is not a pleasant start to anyone’s day. So try setting your alarm tone to something that you’ll love hearing – like your fav new song. Also, be sure to set your alarm away from arms reach so you physically need to get up to shut it off. (Yeah, yeah – it sucks. But trust us, it will work!). If you still don’t feel like you can do it, there’s always products made to help you. Check out Ruggie: a rug that has a built-in alarm clock. It won’t stop going off until you stand up on it for a designated amount of time, ensuring you’re up and at ‘em and CAN’T hit snooze!

2. Exercise

Exercising releases positive endorphins similar to the effects of morphine. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. Now, we know not everyone is the type to jump out of bed and into a pair of running shoes (although we’re totally jealous of the co-worker who has already ran a mile before strutting into work at 8am). Whatever form of exercise you prefer, crawl out of bed and make it happen! And feel free to start off slow — do some jumping jacks, stretches, squats or other basic at-home exercises to get your blood pumping; then work up to doing a full work-out. We promise that with a little bit of exercise, you’ll feel more energized and ready to tackle your day.

3. Fuel Your Body

Before you groggily pour that fresh cup of joe, you should know that you’re MUCH better off opting for a fresh smoothie or lemon water. Everyone knows the benefits of lemon water; however, the key to lemon water in the morning isn’t exactly the actual lemon water but the temperature of it. Drinking warm lemon water in the morning aids your digestive system by flushing it and rehydrating your body! Lemon water not tickling your fancy? Maybe a yummy breakfast smoothie is more up your alley. They are sure to give you the energy and nutrients you need to keep you fuelled throughout the day.

4. Wash your face

Believe it or not, your skin can accumulate oils and environmental debris even in your sleep, whether it be from your pillowcase or circulated air such as a heater. An A.M. wash with a facial spin brush will not only provide an efficient cleanse (6x more effective than using your hands), but it can exfoliate dead skin away and allow for the best absorption of other-skincare products you apply. AND, it will also give you that glow you need to start the day with confidence! It’s a win-win.

5. Meditate

So now your face is squeaky clean and you’re feeling healthy and energized — now what? Why not practice a little meditation and positive affirmations? According to the Huffington Post, meditation can reduce stress, improve concentration, increases happiness, and more. For just two minutes, take time out of your day, whether it be while standing or sitting, to check in with how you are feeling. The result? You’ll feel less stressed and ready for your day.

So stop spending all of those extra minutes sleeping your life away — get up, get energized, and live more of your life.
