5 Make-up Tips Every Woman Should Know

3 min read

How many of us are still sticking to the make-up techniques we adopted in our teens? If this sounds familiar, it’s time to upgrade your routine! Hit the refresh button when it comes to your glam routine with these 5 make-up tips.

Whether we’re talking about night or day, these tips will help you get it right and have you looking flawless in no time.

#1 Put some base into it

Keeping your skin clean is the most important step when it comes to a perfect make-up application.

Take your time to figure out your skin type and which products are designed to suit your needs, because the right tools can transform your make-up look completely! It’s essential to use a soothing facial brush like Cora 3 Complete Cleansing Brush to uncover glowing skin and prevent breakouts. Daily and weekly exfoliation is important because it minimizes pores, revealing smoother and softer skin -  the perfect base for a beautiful make-up look.

#2 Brush off the haters

It’s easy to forget that owning a qualitative make-up brush set is fundamental in perfecting your make-up looks. Poor quality brushes can make the application of your make-up more difficult by wasting or soaking up too much product and leaving a streaky finish.

Using poorly made brushes can also irritate and hurt your skin so don’t buy 100% into what all the online beauty gurus are recommending, take it with a pinch of salt  and do some research of your own. We love the Ready To Roll Brush Set from Sephora - it includes all the brushes you might need to complete your make-up look. All brushes are made out of non-porous, synthetic bristles - and on top of it all, they’re super soft!

 #3 Shine your light

Bad beauty lighting (BBL) is your biggest enemy when you want to achieve that perfect look.

We can all agree that natural lighting is our go-to when applying make-up but what should we do when using natural lighting isn’t an option? On those cloudy days, LED lights are the next best thing to natural, fresh rays of sunshine. Good Beauty lighting helps you avoid overdoing your foundation, blush or bronzer and going overboard with concealing imperfections. LEDs distribute an even light across your face while resembling the color spectrum of natural light closely.

Improve your bathroom and vanity lighting or take good beauty lighting with you everywhere you go with our LED lit mirrors. Don’t know which one best suits your needs? Take our quiz and find out!

#4 Do some fine-tuning

Trying to be picture perfect comes with a set of challenges that can easily be fixed by color correcting your imperfections while contouring and highlighting your features. Remember opposite colors cancel eachother out, neutralizing discolorations and hiding imperfections. So, if you want to get rid of redness on your face, apply a green colored corrector and if those dark circles want to make an appearance put them to shame with an orange coloured corrector.

Another tip in achieving a chiseled look is using contour to create shadows in your cheekbones, slim down your nose or enhance the shape of your eyes. Use  highlighter to make your lips look more prominent or give your brows a lifting effect by highlighting just above the brow.

Important Detail:Use shimmery bronzers, blushers and highlighters sparingly to avoid a glittery mess.

#5 Be your own wingwoman

A well shaped brow and a razor sharp eyeliner complete any make-up look successfully. We love using the Maya Lighted Magnification Mirror when shaping our brows and and our winged eyeliner, because it has LED lights and a 7x zoom - perfect for detailed make-up looks.

To shape your brows correctly line a pencil up from the corner of one side of your nose and the inner corner of your eye - this is where your brows should ideally start. Now angle the pencil to the outer corner of your eye and this is where your brows should end.  To find where your arch should ideally go, angle the pencil to line up with the middle of your eye (make sure you’re looking forward) - voila a foolproof hack!

One small tip into getting the perfect wing to your eyeliner is to place a small piece of sticky tape slanted from the outer corner of your eye up to the tail end of your eyebrow. Then follow this as a guide when applying your liner for the most perfectly angled wing! - et voila, your razor sharp winged liner is complete!

Live it up! Even though these tips are simple they can truly upgrade your make-up routine! Leave behind your outdated techniques and let your beauty shine through by choosing the right tools and products for your beauty needs.
