How to Use a Facial Steamer

cleanse your skin

Step 1: Prepare Your Skin

An effective face steam starts with a clean face. Cleanse away any make-up or dirt from the day before you begin. One thing for sure is that you don’t want to steam your face with any makeup residue left-behind. To prevent this, we recommend using skin cleansing tools like  Isla Sonic Brush or  Cora Facial Spin Brush with your favorite cleanser to ensure you’re getting the most effective deep cleanse prior to steaming.

Step 2: Prepare Your Steamer

To prepare your steamer, remove the water tank at the back and add distilled or purified water to the fill line. If you are enhancing your steam experience with any water-soluble essential oils or natural fruits/herbs, place them in Rivo’s fruit basket before turning it on.  Place the steamer on a hard, flat surface and prepare for pamperage!

Step 3: Pick Your Steam Treatment

With the Rivo Facial Steamer you can choose the perfect steam treatment for your skin. Rivo is one of the only steamers on the market that offers both hot and cold steam experiences, which is great for your skin because you get the circulation, deep cleansing and pore loosening benefits of warm steam and the hydrating, tightening and calming benefit of cool steam.

Simply select one of the six different pre-set steam treatments and from there, you will be taken through a dreamy steam sequence based on the setting you choose.  For example the Hydrate and Glow setting cycles through three sets of warm and cool steam… you can think of it like interval training for your skin with the results being radiant skin that glows for days and days.

Step 4: Prepare to be Pampered

Now for the best part! Sit at a comfortable distance in front of your steamer and let Rivo’s rotating nozzle and automatic steam settings do all the work. Close your eyes, relax and steam away your stress while soaking in the juicy hydration of the steam itself.

Caution:  Use the product with caution. The steam from the facial sauna is very hot. Always close your eyes when using and keep a minimum distance of 25 cm to avoid scalding due to high temperature.

Step 5: Post-Steam Care

Once your steam is complete and you’re feeling ultra relaxed and glowy, we recommend cleansing your skin again. This will wash away any impurities or congestion that has loosened during the steam. Apply your favorite serums, moisturizer, or face mask for best results! Freshly steamed skin actually absorbs products more deeply, making them all the more nourishing and effective for your skin. Soak up the goodness!

Fight Acne & Blackheads With Your Facial Steamer

Though using a facial steamer won’t magically melt away all the blackheads and debris lodged in your pores, the steam can significantly soften the clogged pores and make them easier to extract after.

Here are 3 quick tips for using your facial steamer to help get rid of blackheads.

  1. Cleanse your skin thoroughly
  2. Steam your face for at least 4 minutes on a warm steam setting,  Rivo’s “Pore Cleansing” setting is perfect for this.
  3. Using a sterile extraction tool and gentle pressure, carefully extract any visibility clogged pores, whiteheads or blackheads.
  4. Cleanse your face once you are finished and if desired, you can use Rivo’s cool steam setting to help soothe your skin and reduce any lingering inflammation or redness.

What Products To Use With Your Facial Steamer

Using Skincare Products Post-Steam

When it comes to what products to use after your steam, the choice is up to you. Steaming your skin can help your skincare products work more effectively as it allows them to penetrate the skin more deeply. It’s the perfect time to put on a chilled sheet mask of your choice and give yourself a facial massage using the  Remi facial massager or the  Aeva rose quartz roller

What Water to Use With Your Steamer

When it comes to what products to use WITH your steam, we recommend only using distilled water in your steamer to avoid mineral deposits that can clog the machine and in some cases your pores as well. Distilled water is fully purified so you can feel confident that no sneaky chemicals (like chlorine, fluoride or other metals) will be finding a new home in your skin.

Using Aromatherapy and Essential Oils With Your Steamer

With Rivo, you have the option to create a customized aromatherapy steam experience by adding essential oils or dried fruits into Rivo’s essential oil basket. Essential oils and plant essences have potent properties that can be very beneficial and nutritive to your skincare routine.

When it comes to adding essential oils, it’s extremely important to only use water soluble oils to avoid damaging your facial steamer.  Water soluble oils will dissolve with the water which provides a gentle and effective result.

To add essential oils to your Rivo, simply add 3-7 water soluble oils into the basket and replace the basket back into the top of the steamer, replacing the cover. You are now ready to take your facial steam to the next level.
